Notes from stake conference

Aaron Stobbe and Kirk Silver as HP and Aaron Stobbe to the High Council.

President Jackson: Matters of the Heart
Speaking of the priests of Noah: because they did not apply themselves to understanding they were unable to act in wisdom and their knowledge was not only not a benefit to them but it became a detriment to them.

“In the doctrine and covenants the Lord says that He requires the heart and a willing mind. The mind must be willing to subordinate itself to the feelings of the heart when necessary.”

Instead of “I think therefore I am” disciples of Christ say “I feel, therefore I act.”

“The acquisition of spiritual knowledge must be a blended prices. It must be one part mind and a greater part feeling.”

Study invited us to know while prayer invites us to feel.

Speaking of sabbath day worship: keeping the sabbath day holy is a foundational practice that allows us to keep other covenants. Don’t be judgemental about his others keep the sabbath day but let us make sure that it is different than any other day.

President Walker: three points of contact in hiking is a rule of safety. How about three points of spiritual contact: personal religious observances (prayer, scripture study, attending our meetings), keeping the commandments, and faith in the Atonement of Christ.

Sister Winegar: the message she heard at temple president’s seminar from President Monson was Jesus is found in the temple.

President Winegar: Building off of Doctrine and Covenants 2, God undoubtedly made promises to His children but we undoubtedly made promises to our ancestors to find them and provide the ordinances of the gospel.

Elder C. Scott Grow: I didn’t know that Porter Rockwell was a neighbor to Joseph Smith in childhood and that he was baptized on the day the church was organized (though he wasn’t one of the six organizing members).

A couple of months ago fit the first time in church history there were more family names submitted than baptisms performed in the temples.

Elder Grow called up a young woman (Tiffany – a senior in high school) and a young man ({I missed his name} – a recently returned missionary) from the audience. These two were not given any warning of this so their answers we obviously impromptu and sincere.

One of his missionaries from when he was a mission president committed adultery multiple times after getting married and had been excommunicated. Now he has told people that he never believed the gospel. Elder Grow knows better because he did believe it as a missionary but because of wickedness he lost the spirit do that he can no longer remember believing it. I think of James.

It is your responsibility, fathers, to make sure that prayer and scripture study happen in your home.
