Eva didn’t want to live with Great Aunt Rose but her mother needed surgery so Eva had to live with her for a summer. Great Aunt Rose lived away from others and Eva was lonely. When she finally began to pay attention to her aunt she discovered that great aunt Rose was the happiest person she knew. Eva tried to understand why.
On the day she was to leave she asked her aunt why she was so happy and Great Aunt Rose explained to her that it was her choice to be happy. After much disappointment and sadness she found faith in Christ that everything would eventually work out and she decided that she would be happy rather than wallowing in despair.
As a parable, President Uchtdorf was able to tie up lots of loose ends into a neat bundle. The Great Aunt Rose parable is very nicely done. The whole parable is worth reading.
