The promise of Malachi

I expect that one reason Christ gave the words of Malachi to the Nephites (which were given after they had separated from the Jews) was to emphasize those words for us in our day since this was the suspension where they would be fulfilled. I wonder if there were other reasons (either for us out for the Nephites) for those words to receive such emphasis.
