Voting in Utah is depressing this year. Most years the Democrats make an attempt to field an actual challenger for many of the races and sometimes the other parties actually offer up a reasonable option as well. This year I find that in every partisan race the only serious candidate (if there is one) is the Republican.
Even as a registered Republican that’s depressing to me. If there are no other reasonable candidates there is no check if/when the dominant party gets off kilter (which is bound to happen from time to time in any organization – just look at the national GOP as current and obvious proof).
