Today was my 40th birthday. There’s nothing particularly journal-worthy about that but Laura made sure to fix a very nice dinner for me and the kids took the time to acquire a full set of new Rubik’s cubes for me (2×2, 3×3, 4×4, & 5×5). They all sang a couple of rousing renditions of Happy Birthday. Again, nothing particularly newsworthy except that the second time they sang to me they all trailed off halfway through the song – except for Emma who finished it all by herself. Then just a minute ago I heard her sing the first line, “happy birthday to you,” in her sleep. After that I decided that I should record it – it made me smile.
