To arrive at the promised land, the Jaredites had to ensure great struggles against the wind and waves. In order to survive it all they had to be prepared with ships of sufficient strength and provisions of sufficient capacity. Had they not followed the direction of the Lord they would have been unable to know and make the necessary preparations in order to obtain the land of promise.
