With all my skepticism yesterday I was happy to have my fears assuaged today as Laura assured me that she feels good about her treatment and later as a social worker called me to give me a report on her progress and more importantly to listen to me and get my perspective on this episode and on the situation of our home – it made me believe the rhetoric of family being a key part of the healing and the solutions to prevent a repeat performance. I also felt better about the timeline even though the original 5 to 7 day estimate didn’t budge. I liked the fact that prior to discharging any patient they have a meeting with the primary support members of the family to make sure that everyone is on the same page about the plan for care going forward.
My day was extremely busy so that I only got to talk to Laura for a few minutes in the morning and it was all business as I tried to get Alyssa and Mariah to the concussion specialist. I never got a chance to call her during the other allowed calling times. I learned from Becca later that Laura had tried to call me multiple times during the day but had had technical difficulties. (Becca and Marsha went to visit during the designated hour tonight.)
