What does this imply?

We were told by email today that Dominion is seeking to complete the long-term structural realignment by August of this year. That will include reporting changes, job title alignment, and pay adjustments as necessary. This is where involuntary job losses can potentially take place or employee rights are triggered to be able to leave with severance (pay cuts above 10% and job relocation over 50 miles trigger employees rights to leave with severance). This doesn’t worry me because the worst they could do would be to give me a 9% cut (although I’d rather terminate than take that kind of cut). I do wonder what to read into the fact that Laura and I both responded to that news by contemplating the desirability of having this job end and taking the severance rather than continuing to work in my present position.

I consider the most likely outcome to be little or no change for me at work but I’m not confident that the best long-term outcome is staying.
