We don’t know anything about the skill level of the particular soldier who took the scalp of Zerahemnah. He may have been Ellie, or he may just as well have been relatively novice. In any case, I am confident that in the moment when Zerahemnah charged Moroni this nearby soldier responded instinctively with utter clarity as he defended his commander.
I wonder how many lives he saved by doing that as he convinced many Lamanites to make the convenance of peace and tilted the odds even further in the Nephites’ favor so that the remaining conflict likely ended even faster than it otherwise would have.
