Personal covenants

At the time when they had been converted from the traditions of their fathers, the people of Ammon made a covenant to never take up arms, even in defense. At a later time when their hosts were under threat from the Lamanites the sons of those people of Ammon made a covenant to never relinquish their liberty but to defend themselves and their Nephite brethren in all cases. Like their fathers their covenant was righteous and timely.
