Interview two (3)

Today I interviewed with another product owner manager as well as the product owner who I would share responsibility with if I get the job at Willis Towers Watson and leaders of the software development and information technology departments. Because they are looking for someone to take ownership over the IT support group and because their product owners aren’t typically highly technical (more customer focused) they are looking for someone more technical who still had a good grasp of the product owner role. Hopefully they see that in me after today’s interview. I think they did unless they were put off by my answer that I didn’t have a clear concept of the term “DevOps” (I know what the term is, but as Matthew Smith said in asking the question, it’s an industry buzzword with no clear definition).

I felt good about my answers as they asked other, less ethereal questions about why I was trying to move from development and how I would handle certain types of situations or what experience I had with some common pitfalls in the product owner world.

I think now we wait and see if this will all come together for me. In the mean time, I go on-call tomorrow and Laura has no nanny to help us (Britni’s last day was last Thursday and the only candidate who came for an interview wanted too much money). Thankfully today Laura found that she enjoyed the time with two kids – we just need to ensure that she had the needed support for getting people out the door in the mornings.
