Today was another case where I keenly felt the operating principle for how our house runs. To put it briefly, other people (Laura, the kids, extended family, DCFS, the schools) complain that things aren’t right here then the complainers stand back and request me to expend more time/money/energy to make the situation better. It’s no wonder that I’m heavily in debt, scrambling at work, and generally burning the candle at both ends (and several points in the middle for good measure).
The funny thing is that in a way they are all right – I do need to set the example of doing my part well and allowing others to own their own families rather than doing my part shoddily as I try to catch everyone else who is failing in the system. (This is not to suggest that I shouldn’t assist where I have actual capacity to do so.)
