Nephi called Jacob to be a priest even as Nephi was referred as a king. For at least part of Nephi’s reign Jacob followed the directions of Nephi in fulfilling his role. Jacob’s responsibilities were ecclesiastical but Nephi was still the final ecclesiastical least among his people.
