The iniquity of the church

I always thought it was iniquity among the Nephites that brought Alma to dedicate himself to pacing and give up the judgement seat. I apparently ignored the detail that it was specifically iniquity in the church. Just because the church is the Lord’s doesn’t guarantee that the members of the church are any more righteous than the rest of the people.
