The wickedness of the Amalakites and Amulonites set the tone so that the Lamanites who lived near them didn’t accept the preaching if the sons of Mosiah. In like manner, the correspondence of the Anti-Nephi-Lehies becoming friendly with the Nephites paved the way for them later to be given protection by the Nephites.
