When Alma prays to be strengthens so that he might beat with the addictions that he would suffer because of the wickedness of the people I suspect most people think of things like being taunted, stabbed, imprisoned, or assaulted. Certainly those things would be included in his request but I feel that he was thinking of the more certain addiction of feeling saddened or even forlorn because of the wickedness he witnessed around him.
