Helaman was confident that they would not suffer more for the fulfilling the oath that they people of Ammon had made. In order to make that happen he accepted the invitation to lead their sons in keeping another oath. How often does the Lord require something hard at our hands as a means of securing blessings to which we feel we are entitled?
The same was true for us today. We had been fasting to know if we needed to put in more work on the house before selling it. We felt that doing so would be a detriment to our family. While fasting a family came in Sunday to look at the house and the feedback they gave was that it was too expensive for the work it required. Again Laura and I considered whether we should carpet and paint then relist the house. We felt that would subtract from our family wellbeing. We choose to contact two families who had previously shown interest and offer a lower price. One of those families, the Frazier’s, came to look at the house again. With the lower price they indicated that they expect to make an offer. While they were here looking the Hess’s from our ward, who had previously told Laura their daughter might be interested in moving here, stopped by unexpectedly and asked to tie the house. They said their daughter was planning to see the house on the next couple of days and they asked us to promise not to accept an offer before she had a chance to make an offer. Finally, while the Frazier’s were still here, a third family stopped unexpectedly and asked to see the house. We told them if the lowering price and indicates that we wanted to move forward soon. They also seemed interested.
The Lord answers prayers but He also expects us to plow the fields and prepare for rain.
