Finding our house

I have been remiss in sharing the happenings if the last week. After we got our house under contract we started getting more serious about finding a house to buy. We even decided we should expand our search to include Lehi even though we wanted to be (and felt that we should be) in American Fork. On Tuesday Brooklyn Warden got married. Before the wedding we visited 2 houses in American Fork. One was nice but more expensive than we wanted and the other didn’t fit our needs (very nice family though). While driving between houses Julie Smith, who is our Realtor for this purchase, be sent a listing for it consideration. I concluded that it didn’t have the space we needed and we moved on. As we arrived at the wedding we got news of the outcome of our home inspection. With one minor concession we passed the last real uncertainty in our contract. After watching The Incredibles 2 and going to the reception we went home, preparing for 6 house showings the next day.

On Wednesday while I was at work I saw a house in American Fork that looked very promising and told Laura we should go see it. It turned out to be the same house I had rejected the day before. When we went looking in the afternoon we were all ready to be done looking and people concluded that several of the houses would meet or needs. After 4 showings in Traverse Mountain we had 2 houses we were considering. That’s when Savannah admitted that she really wanted to be in American Fork. I told her that while the next house was more expensive than I’d want to pay, the last house (the one I had rejected on Tuesday) was likely the last real option for her to get that wish. When we went to the last house a miracle happened – every single member of the family liked it. It was only later that night while Laura and I were selling to finalize a decision on making an offer that Laura suddenly was unsure. She wanted to take her time deciding.

On Thursday Savannah and Alyssa headed off to Trek and promised to pay that Mom would make up her mind soon. I told Julie to keep an eye on that house because we didn’t want it going under contract before we finished deciding. Not an hour later she informed me that the sellers had an offer already but that if we made a good offer quickly they would rescind their counteroffer. I talked to Laura for nearly an hour before she settled in making an offer. I drew up a very strong offer over the phone with Julie and on the afternoon she drove to my office so I could sign the offer before she submitted it. By that evening they told us they were considering our offer but would want to push closing into August. We agreed to consider that and they said they would draw up a counteroffer for us with new dates. It never came.

Friday they asked for the more days to consider our offer and Julie told them we would keep looking at houses while they did. They again said they would send a counteroffer by Saturday morning. It never came.

Saturday we went to see a house that looked promising and after seeing it during an open house we arranged to see it again with Julie in the evening as well as look again at the house with it outstanding offer. I thought I liked the second house better even with a higher price. After walking through that house a second time, this time with Savannah and Alyssa, I noticed much more work that it would need but expected to still like it better than the first house. After that walkthrough Julie presented us with the counteroffer that had been sent to her that afternoon. When I got to the first house it was surprising that almost everyone, including me, still liked the first house better. After much talking I, along with most of the family, was quite settled on the house we had already offered on. That’s when Laura got cold get again.

Sunday after talking for hours, Laura again concluded that she needed to rely on the rest of your for an answer and agreed to have me sign the papers, “now, before I change my mind again.”

Today Julie submitted our acceptance. After that rollercoaster well we now just need to find a place to stay for July.
