Precise timing

I don’t recall anything in the prophecy of Samuel the Lamanite where he indicates the timing of the death of Christ. He tells what the signs will be but doesn’t indicate how long it will be until they come. Why then did the people begin to look for those signs just as the time arrived for them to be given? Is there some other ancient prophecy that indicated the lifespan of the Savior?
