Overcome by smoke

For some reason I had it in my head that most of all of the death at the death of Christ came during the initial 3 hours of unparalleled destruction. As I read this time I realized that the quaking and destruction didn’t entirely cease after 3 hours and on top of that the vapor of smoke was enough to kill many who hadn’t perished from more aggressive forms of destruction. That might explain why those who were spared howled so much throughout the darkness – the work of death continued and they couldn’t be confident in their own safety as others around thet continued to die.
