Hunted down

Morning didn’t write about anything past the final battle which left 24 living Nephites. The first thing Moroni writes is that the Lamanites killed Mormon. They may have left 24 survivors at the end of the day but they stayed to make sure the job was finished. I wonder how many of the 24 they killed then next day. I also wonder if Mormon allowed himself to be killed in order to distract the Lamanites from seeking Moroni. He had been wounded and may have concluded that by not running away the Lamanites might be less diligent in searching for survivors.
