A New Calling

This morning I got a text from Brother Rose asking to meet with me before church about a calling. When I mentioned that to Laura she suggested that I would be called into scouts. That got me thinking about potential callings and whether I felt I could fulfill them based on our current situation. Because we haven’t ever really met with a member of the bishopric here I felt that they could easily call me to a calling based on where there was a need in the ward without understanding the limitations of our family. I imagined getting called into Primary as I have often sat with Emma until her teacher arrives and since I had sat through the latter part of the Primary program practice yesterday. I felt that as much as I enjoy primary spirit I wouldn’t connect with primary kids on their level. Scouting would also take me too much away from the family at critical times. Then a peaceful thought came that a calling in the Sunday School presidency or teaching an older Sunday School class – anything from 14-year-olds to adults in Gospel Doctrine – would allow me to grow and contribute without putting a detrimental burden on our household.

I got called to be a counselor in the Sunday School presidency and as we talked about the challenge that this presidency will face in learning to implement the changes that will come as the church strives to be more home-centered and in helping the instructors and families to also implement those things I grew even more excited about this opportunity. Truly the Lord is mindful of me – even if we don’t have any history with this bishopric.

Notes from church

“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that publisheth peace…” This always reminds me of the words of Abinadi who reminds us that we can draw a direct line from all those who are considered “those who publish peace” and Him who is the founder of peace. Christ commanded His people to do the works that He did. He brought peace and invited all to come into Him. When we bring the message of peace and invite all yo come into Christ we are fulfilling His commandment.
