In my prayer this morning as I sought answers on how to support my family I felt how much my situation has echoes of what Mormon experienced. He loved his people but could not (on the whole) recommend them to God. He had led his people but his soul cried out for the Lord to come out in judgement against them. He was only a man and could no longer enforce his commands. When he spoke the word of God with sharpness they would tremble and anger against him and when he used no sharpness they hardened their hearts against him.
I understood his heart in gathering them to Cumorah for a final battle. It wasn’t because he hoped to save them. It was because he hoped to buy some time before they’re destruction and hoped to have it over with quickly rather than drawing it out. Surely he also wished that something would change within them before that battle which would allow them to receive blessings from God again.
