Frustrated king-men

The king-men who petitioned Pahoran must have hoped for one of two things to happen: they may have hoped that Pahoran wouldn’t realize the results of their proposed changes or they may have hoped that Pahoran would be flattered and expect that they meant to make him king. I think the latter was more likely and they may have gone so far as to explicitly claim that was their intent. In fact they might have believed that Pahoran would be a good king to them because he would be flattered by their desire to elevate him. If they expected to flatter him it must have been extra frustrating when their attempt fell flat.
