My day started with me going to put early so that I could fill the car with gas so that Savannah wouldn’t have to worry about that. See the end if work I walked to the Museum of Natural Curiosity so that the kids could keep playing there longer rather than coming to pick me up from the train station. My day ended by me starting up late to go help strike the set of Les Misérables so that the girls (especially Mariah) could get to bed a little earlier.
I’m not recording these for praise or to complain. As I was heading out for the set strike it occurred to me that this pattern of going an extra mile to benefit one or more of my children is the essence of parenthood. Anyone facing the prospect of being a parent needs to consider the “serving my kids consistently” aspect of it rather than the “kids are cute and fun” element of it.
