Church went fairly smoothly today. Afterward we went to visit Mom while dropping off the lawnmower and leaving the trailer for Bill to use in moving. Finally, Isaac and I went to the Alpine Tabernacle for stake general priesthood meeting – which turned out to be just what my soul needed (specifically president Livingston’s talk).
Stake General Priesthood Meeting
I’m actually happy at the prospect of having stake meetings in this historic building.
President Reece DeMille: Talking about cycling the first advice he got as he took up that hobby was “stay inside the line.” He learned by trying to cut corners twice that the glass, nails, etc. get pushed to the edges so going outside the line leads to flat tires.
Elder Uchtdorf said of King Saul that Samuel noticed that Saul didn’t have the strength of character to stay inside the line when pressured by others.
President Brad Smith:
President Scott Livingston:First general priesthood meeting in the history of the Manila Creek Stake. (So he took a selfie with everyone – multiple pictures and then either a video or a panoramic picture.) This tabernacle is basically the same age as our piano.
Meeting with prospective missionaries he tries to answer 3 questions: are you prepared? are you worthy? are you healthy?
There are times when he is told that a prospective missionary needs to submit a new picture because their eyes are not open wide enough.
- Where do you stand right now? (in comparison to where you should be)
- What is your prayer relationship with the Lord?
- Do you have a relationship with the scriptures?
- Do you know how to work?
- Are you worthy?
- If there is anything wrong in your life remove it.
- If you need help to do so help is available.
- {He alluded to the story of the young man who killed himself when he was being extorted for a nude image he had shared foolishly.}
- Are you healthy?
Let us become the kind of priesthood men the Lord is inviting us to be.
