Moral but not righteous

In our day and age many people describe themselves as “spiritual but not religious.” This is meant to concert that they do not subscribe to the teachings of a particular church but that they believe in and are somewhat sensitive to a supernatural power of one kind or another. In many cases I think it really means that they are like Zeniff who was moral but not righteous. He had compassion on the Lamanites and sought not to destroy them when he saw that which was good among them (moral) but he didn’t pay particular heed to any spiritual promptings that might have warned him off the dangers of his undertaking nor were he and his people prompt to remember God (righteous) in their travels which caused much affliction.
