Brother Blackwell had a flag retiring ceremony for pack meeting tonight and I really appreciated how solemnly he insisted on the boys treating it. He told the boys at the outset that they were not to soak unless called upon. When one of the boys in this rowdy group treated him he quickly warned that the boy would be invited to leave. The problem died right there and the ceremony was appropriately solemn. I don’t believe that everything has to be that solemn and pack meetings are generally very loose and fun here but I think it was a good experience for the boys. The Spirit was there and at the end Ezra sat with tears in his eyes for a few minutes before we went home. I was privileged to be asked to participate with other men in the color guard. I think these boys need to have a few more solemn experiences so that it wasn’t a one-time event. They need to learn how to be solemn when asked without anyone testing the lines.
