The humility and faith of Nephi led him to follow the Lord and learn from the Lord. He did as instructed and instead of asking to know the end from the beginning his response was to go as far as he could go and then turn to the Lord when he could see no way forward. Because he operated on faith he believed the Lord that the hard path they were on was preferable to starting in comfort in Jerusalem or even in Bountiful. On the other hand, his brothers did not walk in faith and contrary second-guessed Nephi, Lehi, and the Lord – insisting that there was no way forward and that staying in Jerusalem would have been just fine.
Seeing the pattern with Nephi I have been like him in not demanding more information from the Lord – in going as fast as I can go and following when I have direction. I have been unlike Nephi in turning to the Lord when I feel stuck – defaulting to silently soldiering on even when I can’t seem to make progress. That’s where my current financial dead end comes from. I have patiently (relatively) borne my lack of advancement but have been too slow to seek assistance and direction from the Lord. I’m sure I have missed some blessings because I was too passive.
