What made Giddianhi write his invitation/threat? The obvious motive was to convince the Nephites to surrender but I wonder why. He must have expected that winning an all out war would be costly and not certain to succeed. I suspect he also was growing tired of living in the wilderness and subsisting of what plunger they could take.
Maybe he was convinced that if the Nephites would surrender he could enjoy the benefits of civilization while he continued to carry out his lawless goals.
