It just occurred to me that as the people went from unity and righteousness to division and wickedness they would not have been divided into geographically separate Nations at first. Over time they likely gravitated toward such but at first they would have been intermingled.
It seems that in the process they gravitated toward the historical boundaries they had occupied before they were united.
