How far would Coriantumr have gone?

I wonder if Coriantumr would have been willing to give himself up as Shiz demanded of his people had not gotten angry at the people of Shiz. How committed was he to trying to save the people?

It is always incredible to consider that the people that these armies spent 4 years gathering were expended to the last man within 2 weeks of fighting. What a terrible waste of lives.
