Accountability

We are taught in the church to have children baptized at 8 years old as they have reached the age of accountability. The more I think about it and experience the more I realize that accountability doesn’t come in a stroke at any age.

Our children gradually become more accountable over time. By the age of 8 basically anyone should have sufficient accountability to enter this covenant if they have been instructed on the nature of the covenant. That doesn’t mean their accountability is total. Prior to age 8 they may be accountable to some degree but they will not be held accountable for lack of baptism before that age.
