The Lord does not overwhelm people with more than they can receive. Before he introduces greater concepts He offers them foundational information to test their willingness to learn and accept the truth. This is similar to how He told the Nephites they weren’t ready for more and prepared to leave. When they wanted Him to stay he didn’t teach them more, He just blessed them.
