It sounds as if the final days of battle ranged from place to place. If that is the case, were they all near the place where ether was hidden or did they just end up in his vicinity? I assume they were all close by for him to be able to count the number of men on the last couple of days.
I also wonder about the death of Shiz. Ether gives a detailed description of the event but record that the spirit called him to witness the finality of destruction after Coriantumr had killed Shiz and fainted. It is possible that the details were applied in vision to Moroni when he was making his record a thousand years later.
