Torturous aid

Ginger Livingston shared a pioneer story from someone else about a little girl walking to Zion. The wagon master asked if she wanted to ride in the wagon in the freezing cold. She said yes and he took her hand and began galloping on his horse – forcing her to run. After a couple of minutes he picked her up, wrapped her in a blanket and put her in the wagon. She said at the time he made her run she thought he was the meanest man in the world.

With the advantage of perspective we can recognize the medical fact that if she had just been put in the wagon she would likely have lost her fingers and toes to frostbite. By running first it got her blood circulating to those extremities so they stayed warm in the wagon.
