I can’t go to bed without noting the acts of insurrection and treason that took place today. The President of the United States incited a mob to march against Congress. They succeed in disrupting the counting of electoral votes for hours – that process is proceeding slowly now.
I have tried to contain my loathing for Trump and temper my opposition to avoid any extremes such as declaring him the worst President ever but his actions today are clearly treason. I don’t think there is sufficient time before his term ends to impeach him again and invoking the 25th amendment to remove him might harden his already radical supporters but we must not be ambiguous on the line he crossed today (he is now clearly the worst President we have ever had thanks to this act of treason). If the GOP is unwilling to energetically denounce him and ensure that he cannot represent the party in any capacity – official or unofficial – then there is nothing worth saving in that party and I will finally remove myself from their rolls.
