Not more than you have strength or means

In full context verse 4 of more complete, powerful, and telling than at first glance. “Don’t run faster than you have strength” could be no more than a simple platitude but “do not run faster or labor more than you have strength and means provided” clearly indicates that the Lord will ensure that the strength and means available are sufficient to the pace and scope of the work to be done. If we feel there are not enough resources we should probably consolidate where we are allowing what we have and ensure that we are focused on the things that matter most.

An example I have learned in my life is the fallout from my becoming stressed – I perform worse and treat others worse when I am stressed. I am learning to offload the responsibilities that I naturally tend to accept whenever I find myself feeling and acting stressed. I am literally more effective calmly doing less than stressfully doing more.
