While I can’t know how Joseph felt about it, I can see obvious reasons why it might be discouraging to be told he was not blessed in temporal labors but I can also see how it could be comforting to know that. Having been told that he was not blessed in temporal labors could have insulated Joseph from discouragement when he experienced setbacks in those temporal labors. It could also have geffen him confidence in focusing his efforts in the spiritual labors he was called to attend to. Without that knowledge a lack of temporal success might have made him question if he was doing something wrong and being supported by members if the church might have left him feeling like a parasite.
