I notice that with two gross who had a natural historical animosity between them it was an unstable situation even when they had made peace. When the Lamanite daughters were abducted the Lamanites attacked rather than investigating. When the Nephites became upset at their treatment they fought even when they knew they were unlikely to free themselves.
