Fully 2½ years after our van was sideswiped and well after I had concluded that we might never get paid we got a surprise Christmas gift in the mail from the 4th District Court—our settlement money that had been ordered as restitution early in 2020. That $7355 will ensure that even if we have unexpected expenses and even if Congress doesn’t extend the Child Tax Credit that has been keeping us afloat this year and even with our trip to Disneyland we can be confident that we are financially secure for at least the next year—well after our credit card debt and my student loans are finally paid off.
