Laman and Lemuel argued that the people of Jerusalem were righteous and that Lehi led then out because they would hearken unto him—that just goes to show that people can believe what they want to believe. The reality is that Lansbury and Lemuel came despite the fact that they argued all along the way.
By contrast, Nephi reminded them that the Jews being wicked was not unique to their time and neither was the concept of the Lord leading people out from where they had been out destroying wicked nations in the promised land.
