Conference Promises October 2021

Pure Truth, Pure Doctrine, and Pure Revelation – Russell M. Nelson

I invite you to listen for three things during this conference: pure truth, the pure doctrine of Christ, and pure revelation.

Pray to recognize pure truth and the pure doctrine of Christ. Pray to receive revealed answers to my own questions as I study the Conference messages.

I invoke a blessing upon all who are seeking greater light, knowledge, and truth.

Addressing Mental Health – Elder Erich W. Kopischke

One of the first things we need to learn is that we are certainly not alone. I invite you to study the topic of mental health in the Life Help section of the Gospel Library app. Learning will lead to more understanding, more acceptance, more compassion, more love. It can lessen tragedy while helping us develop and manage healthy expectations and healthy interactions.

I would love to see what resources the church is providing to members so that they can be more supported and supportive through mental health challenges.

The Things of My Soul – Elder Rasband

  • “What things do you ponder?”
  • “What things really matter to you?”
  • “What are the things of your soul?”

Consider the seven “things of my soul” I have shared today: love God the Father and Jesus Christ, our Savior; love your neighbor; love yourself; keep the commandments; always be worthy of a temple recommend; be joyful and cheerful; and follow God’s living prophet. I invite you to identify your own eight, nine, and ten.

  1. Love God the Father and Jesus Christ, our Savior
  2. Love your neighbor
  3. Love yourself
  4. Keep the commandments
  5. Always be worthy of a temple recommend
  6. Be joyful and cheerful
  7. Follow God’s living prophet

Deepening Our Conversion to Jesus Christ – Elder Arnulfo Valenzuela

I invite you to have a permanent plan to study the scriptures.

I consider my current pattern to be my permanent plan. Each week I study the content outlined in Come Follow Me for a couple of days in the week. The rest of the week I have a study plan for the Book of Mormon—on a schedule that is sometimes fast and other times slow to draw it different insights—with a prescribed deadline so that gospel library can keep me on track.

The Faith to Ask and then to Act – Henry B Eyring

The teenage Joseph Smith had faith sufficient to ask a question of God, believing that God would answer his heartfelt need. … The answer he received encouraged him to keep asking ever-better questions and to act on the continuing flow of revelation that had just begun.

I would like to begin a pattern of asking questions and refining those questions until I receive what I need in answer.

The Temple and Your Spiritual Foundation – Russell M Nelson

To each of you who has made temple covenants, I plead with you to seek—prayerfully and consistently—to understand temple covenants and ordinances. Spiritual doors will open. You will learn how to part the veil between heaven and earth, how to ask for God’s angels to attend you, and how better to receive direction from heaven. Your diligent efforts to do so will reinforce and strengthen your spiritual foundation.

I need to make a point to begin going to the temple regularly again and at some point I think I need to start inviting and encouraging Laura to return as well.

Make time for the Lord – Russell M Nelson

Nothing invites the Spirit more than fixing your focus on Jesus Christ. Talk of Christ, rejoice in Christ, feast upon the words of Christ, and press forward with steadfastness in Christ. Make your Sabbath a delight as you worship Him, partake of the sacrament, and keep His day holy.

As I emphasized this morning, please make time for the Lord in His holy house. Nothing will strengthen your spiritual foundation like temple service and temple worship.

  • I need to figure out how to make the Sabbath more of a delight – to have it stand out in my home from other days more distinctly in positive ways.
  • I need to establish a pattern of temple attendance before another six months goes by.
