It had only been about a week since Jesus has raised Lazarus from the dead. I believe Mary Magdalene was there to witness that. With that memory fairly recent, how different did it feel to see Jesus risen from the dead without someone to raise him? Did it feel at all the same or did that make all the difference in the world?
With Lazarus, his return from the grave could bring hope that death need not be permanent so long as Jesus was around to bring someone back (Lazarus wasn’t the first, only the most extreme case of Jesus bringing the dead back) but that hope might have died with the crucifixion of Christ. To see Jesus returned from death would indicate that death was permanently at the mercy of God.
