Wickedness brewing to ripeness

I get the feeling that the time Alma and Amulek spend in prison in Ammonihah was to allow the people there to be separated and for the wished to become fully ripe unless they chose to repent. During their time there, any in the land who would choose righteousness were either killed or else they left. When the leaders of the city and obviously planned a demonstration to mock and belittle Alma and Amulek—when their wickedness was so brazen that they didn’t feel the need to even pretend any sort of justice—the wreath of God began to be released (culminating in their destruction by the Lamanite army not long afterwards).

Watching the growing turmoil within the Republican party and the not promising trajectory of that toiling conflict (let alone the conflicts within larger society that don’t entirely break along any political lines) I wonder if we are Ina similar period where greater judgements from good are being held at bay while we sort ourselves and choose, individually and collectively, whether we will embrace wickedness fully or come to our senses.
