The sanitized story

I can’t read the story of David and Bathsheba without concluding that there is more to the story. This is the official, sanitized version and even in the sanitized version we see how far away from his duty David was. I’m confident that the full version would show us that what David did we far from impulsive, that he had been working his way from the good king he had been to the slothful, covetous, lawless one that he was for this episode. And don’t let my description there take anything away from the repentant David who came later.
