Ammoron blatantly lied in his episode to Moroni and it caused Moroni to abandon the deal he had proposed (well, he took the harder interpretation of his own proposal) so that, instead of exchanging prisoners (getting himself from needing to maintain Nephite prisoners and strengthening his army with soldiers who had been taken prisoner, Ammoron instead lost all his prisons (leverage) and a fortified city, and his men who had been guarding the Nephites. In return he got nothing. You can fight Moroni, you can bargain with Moroni, but if you cross Moroni you’ll find yourself worse off before you even know what hit you.
In that regard I really hope that Merrick Garland is like Moroni. Donald Trump has spent his life thinking his now at any person, any last, any convention that doesn’t suit him. He wins by getting willing to get dirtier than anyone fighting him—any adversarial interaction with Trump is a game of chicken and Trump is always willing to crash the car. With January 6th and with the top secret documents he took after he left office he has done the same thing as always and those who want to see him face consequences have complained that the Attorney General, Merrick Garland, is handling Trump with kid gloves (which we know doesn’t work and which Trump is fully counting on). If he’s like Moroni then he is being careful and meticulous and by the time Trump discovered that Garland is seriously after him it will be too late. That would be ideal.
