I never realized before that the book of Obadiah was not directed at the children of Israel. I knew there were scriptures directed at nations besides Israel but they were always in relation to their dealings with Israel. That’s true here too as it is a result of how Edom treated Israel in the day of their distress and destruction but the Lord speaks to Edom with the same familiarity as if they were His covenant people—probably because they are also of the seed of Abraham.
