In many different ways the people cut corners and ignored the Spirit of the law while trying seriously to appear as though they were keeping the letter of the law. They gave grudgingly and skimped in their offerings. They looked longingly toward a life free from having to serve the Lord. They viewed His statues as burdensome and took advantage of his children rather than nurturing their brethren. And yet for all that the Lord offers “return unto Me and I will return unto you.”
