Luke makes no mention of Mary and Joseph taking Jesus to Egypt for His safety. Instead he indicated that they went back to Nazareth after presenting Christ at the temple in Jerusalem. It makes me wonder if Luke ever learned that they stayed in Bethlehem for a couple of years until they escaped to Egypt after the visit of the wise men and when they returned from Egypt (before Jesus going to the temple at age twelve) they settled again in Nazareth—where they had been before the census.
